PHOENICIA. Tyre. Elagabalus, 218-222. Tetrassarion (Bronze, 27 mm, 9.09 g, 12 h). [IMP CAES] M AV ANTONINVS AVG Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Elagabalus to right, seen from behind. Rev. TYRIORVM Serpent coiled around ovoid baetyl, head left; to left, murex shell; to right, palm tree. Rouvier 2390 var. (serpent head to right, palm-tree to left, murex to right). RPC VI online 8639. Extremely rare, apparently the third and finest known example. Some earthen deposits and very light pitting, otherwise, fine.
